Please Don't Panic Use The App

The Uber app is actually a lot nicer than the people on Twitter would like to complain about. The navigation works good enough most of the time. You can share your actual location to the driver. One of the best things is that you can call or text the driver and the driver can call or text you. First time users of the app should learn these things and everything would go very smoothly.

There is a spot where I drive where there is two large car dealerships and a car rental company all on top of one another. The Uber app gets the addresses confused sometimes. I've been there a couple of times to pick them up. This particular time the app said that the pickup was at the car rental place but had the address of the car dealership. I figured if this person was at the car rental place they wouldn't need an Uber ride because they'd be renting a car, so I went to the dealership. I knew this was a problem area so I used the app to call the person to verify where they were.

This person answered and was in a panic. They said "I'm not at the dealership, I'm at the rental place. I knew this would be a problem. It's so hard to get here." I was trying to answer them, saying things like "it's okay, I'll just be a minute" and "I'm right down the road". I'm pretty sure they were ignoring me. Finally they said "the people here said they can give me a ride. I can't believe this is happening. Is it okay if I cancel?" Of course I let them cancel. It was crazy that they were acting crazy. If you are reading this person who it's about, please keep reading.

This could have been avoided right at the start. The Uber app allows you to share your location live. It would have been no question where this person was if I saw them on the map. It is simple to get to people when you know where they are. If your Uber driver calls and doesn't sound pissed off on the phone but is being helpful, please don't cancel in a panic looking for another way out of the situation. I drove all there for free and then made one less ride.

Don't Panic, use the app.
